What a cool place for a Birmingham wedding!!!
Avoncroft Museum Wedding Photographer
When the Mother of the Bride asks you to play along to wind up her daughter I think you know you’re in for a fun wedding!
Amy had contacted me about her Avoncroft Museum Wedding Photography, but needed to sort out their budget, and that sort of thing, which is usually how these things happen, A couple of weeks later, her Mum rang me, saying that she wanted to book me as a surprise for Amy, but would I play along with a joke?!
Apparently, Amy has played quite a few pranks on her Mum in the past, so it was time for some maternal payback, albeit with a lovely punch line for her daughter.
Keep a Straight Face
Now, I have to say that despite a turn as Joseph in the nursery nativity and a starring role as ‘Charlie Loon, the Man in the Moon’, in a school production of ‘The Silver Curlew’ when I was about seven years old (just had to Google that to make sure I haven’t made that up!), acting is probably not my forte.
That afternoon I rang Amy to break the bad news to her, that I had been booked by someone else……. cue dramatic pause after a disappointed ‘OH, what a shame’ from the Bride to be.
Then, not wanting to drag it out too long, I added ‘Booked by your Mum, for your wedding!!!’
There then followed some excited screams, and I found out later on from her Mum, some happy tears too!!
So all in all, an unusual way to take a wedding booking and quite fitting really for such an unusual place to get married, like Avoncroft Museum.

Unusual Birmingham wedding venue, DIY touches and a delicious afternoon tea!
If you’ve never been to Avoncroft Museum then you might think ’ A museum? Lots of dusty display cabinets and bits of hold cabinets, why get married there??’ But you couldn’t be further from the truth!
It’s such an interesting and quirky place to get married. For starters, it’s set in about 15 acres of Worcestershire countryside, to the south of Birmingham
What other museum can you think of where the exhibits are buildings?? Spread out across the site are a huge variety of interesting and unusual constructions including a windmill, old gaol, a mission church and the national collection of telephone boxes!!
A Museum of Buildings!
So eclectic it certainly is and creates an amazing backdrop for the wedding day starting with the New Guesten Hall and it’s listed fourteenth century roof. Amy & Marc used the hall for most of their wedding but also managed to incorporate the Mission Church, windmill and an old co-op store into the day, despite the March rain.
With a honeymoon in New York there were loads of nods to that in their decorations, then a scrummy afternoon tea (yum yum!) and a packed bar for cocktail hour before a first dance to the coolest version of ‘Can you Feel the Love Tonight’ that I’ve ever heard (By Passenger, if you’re interested!)
