Wedding Photography at Birtsmorton Court
Something I’ve been meaning to write about for aaaaaaages is Birtsmorton Court Wedding Photography, time to address this faux pas.
My job takes me all over the place, photographing amazing weddings at cool venues, with quite a few of them being in Worcestershire. I feel like I really get the inside track on wedding venues so have a blog all about Worcestershire Wedding Venues. If you’re on the hunt for a venue then check it out!
One that I need to add to that blog is Birtsmorton Court, which is a glorious venue, a few miles from Malvern.
Birtsmorton Court has a listing on Wikipedia, a sure sign of a wedding venue having some history!
This tells us that it’s a Grade I listed fortified medieval moated manor house, with the manor being mentioned in the Doomsday Book. So we’re talking PROPER history here!
Take a look at the Wiki page if you want all the low down, but as you can see from the photo above, the house itself is a beautiful moated property with some of it half-timbered.
There are gorgeous gardens, a variety of indoor and outdoor places for a civil wedding and, it has it’s own church, right in the grounds!
This is The church of St. Thomas of Canterbury with St. Peter & St. Paul (bit of a mouthful!) and is literally a two minute walk from the house.
Reasons to choose Birtsmorton Court for your wedding venue:-
- Indoor and outdoor civil wedding options plus it’s own church
- Glorious gardens and grounds
- Newly built space for your wedding breakfast called The Linney
Getting Ready
Most of the time at weddings I work by myself, better able to blend in, to be the ‘Ninja Wedding Photographer’.
But this doesn’t mean that I can’t be in two places at the same time.
Well, okay, I can’t actually do that! 😆
However, if logistics allow I can still capture two lots of getting ready, moving between the two sides of the wedding.
This was one of those times.
Adam was getting ready, and having a drink, at a pub just a few minutes from Birtsmorton Court. So having started my day with Hannah, who was doing initial prep at a local hotel, I called in to see the boys.
Then on to the venue where Hannah and her bridesmaids were now ensconced, finishing off their prep.
Wedding Ceremony at Birtsmorton Court
So I mentioned the choice of places at Birtsmorton Court for you to have your wedding ceremony. One of them is outdoors in the gorgeous walled White Garden.
That’s where Hannah & Adam were hoping to have their wedding ceremony.
Sadly, the weather wasn’t looking too promising, so the registrars said it had to move indoors.
However, when you indoor option looks like this, that’s really not too bad!
This is The Great Hall, at the centre of the Manor House with parts dating back to the 13th century. There are tapestries hanging from the wall which ooze history. It’s a beautiful space for your indoor ceremony.
One of the quirks of the layout, is that there is a doorway (just underneath the tapestry) which leads to bottom of a flight of stairs. Down which, the Bride was coming, allowing me to get this shot.
This is an image that I really like, juxtaposing the anticipation of the couple. Unable to see each, but we, as the viewer can see both of them.
I mentioned earlier that the planned outdoor ceremony was moved indoors because of the chance of rain.
For the first few minutes of the ceremony the sun shone and you could perhaps sense a tinge of disappointment that it wasn’t al fresco, as hoped.
But then…
Just after the exchange of rings.
There was the loudest clap of thunder I’ve ever heard, prompting this reaction from the Bride.
What followed was 10 minutes of torrential rain, proving that it had been the right decision to move the wedding indoors! But after that, we had glorious sunshine.
Drinks Reception at Birtsmorton Court
After the ceremony it was out on to the terrace in front of the manor house, overlooking the moat.
Hannah has the most wonderful relationship with her sister, which is evident in a few of the photographs. This is the kind of observational photography that I love. Watching people to capture their relationships, documentary wedding photography.
Then, a walk into the grounds for confetti before a change for the newlyweds to have a wander.
Wedding Breakfast and Party
In 2023 Birtsmorton Court have completed a new area for your reception called The Linney. It’s an oak beam frame covered with a canvas roof and Cotswold stone floor. Looking out over the Courtyard Garden it’s a great addition to the venue.
These images were taken prior to the The Linney being built.
