Lyde Court Wedding Photographer
I remember the first time I was asked to do Lyde Court Wedding Photography. It was a few years ago, but I remember clearly the excitement of discovering all about the venue, thinking about all the photographic possibilities that it offered.
Wedding venues with some history are fascinating and Lyde Court has it’s share!
It dates back to the 14th century with the main stone barn dating from the 17th century.
When you arrive, driving along a twisty-turny lane from the hamlet of Fowey, it’s easy to imagine that you’re miles and miles from anywhere. Nestled amongst rolling Herefordshire hills it feels like a rural idyll.
However, you’re only actually 2 miles from Hereford city centre!
Lyde Court Wedding Ceremonies
In these photographs you can see the main Great Barn, with large Willow Lawn in front on it.
Funnily enough, none of the wedding ceremonies I photographed at Lyde Court have taken place in this barn. Even though their website says that this is where most of them take place!
The Great Barn can hold 250 seated guests if you have your ceremony there, or later on for the wedding breakfast. As you can see from this photograph, the inside of the barn is just stunning.
Vaulted ceiling, stone walls, arrow-slit windows and wooden beams,
Plus, it’s got it’s own glitter ball for later on!!
If you prefer an outdoor space, you can get married on the Willow Lawn with the barn as your back drop.
Or, a third choice, and the one that all my couples have chosen, is the building that runs alongside the rose garden.
It’s a sort of indoor/outdoor space, converted from it’s previous farming use in to a long covered barn ‚that is open along one side. This allows you to look out on to the rose garden lawn, hear the birds sing and feel the breeze!
Reasons to choose Lyde Court for your wedding venue:-
- Set in a beautiful secluded valley but only a couple of miles from Hereford
- Gorgeous 17th century stone barn for your wedding breakfast (and ceremony if you choose)
- Fantastic as a backdrop to your wedding photos!
A Herefordshire Wedding
Lyde Court is actually the name of the house on the estate, and it’s here that there is room for morning prep.
It’s a part of the wedding day that I love to photograph, trying to capture all the emotion and excitement of the build up to the ‘main event’.
Whilst Hattie was getting ready with her Mum and Bridesmaids, Henry and his family arrived to get finish getting ready themselves.
It’s great when the flow of a wedding allows me to photograph both sides of the story like this. I tend to photograph weddings on my own so I can be as inconspicuous as possible. But at weddings like this I can still capture two sides of the building up to the ceremony.
As the guests arrive, the preparation is completed.

Willow Lawn Drinks Reception
Let’s face it, we can never rely on the weather can we! It’s something of a national obsession for us Brits to discuss what the latest forecast says. I’m sure that most couples are like me, constantly checking their weather app in the run up to the see what it says.
From my point of view as a wedding photographer, I don’t necessarily want it to be a cloudless blue sky with full sun. Hot sun tends to send people into the shade and it can make everyone squint!
Some cloud adds a nice bit of contrast and can make for really interesting skies.
But, being a documentary wedding photographer, I just go with whatever is happening and concentrate mainly on people watching. Looking for all those interesting moments and interaction between wedding guests.
A Walk in the Hills at Lyde Court
At some point during the time after you get married, it’s really nice to have a bit of time away from your guests, taking a walk somewhere, with me discreetly following!
Now, I don’t stick on camouflage gear, but I do try to keep a low profile and give you some space to enjoy time together.
Wedding Breakfast in the Great Barn at Lyde Court
With a venue like Lyde Court, the reception in the Great Barn is very much a highlight. The inside of the barn is stunning and the tables are laid out banquet style, which is a really sociable way to do it.
Later, as the light starts to fade, they light hundreds of candles and t‑lights to give a twinkly glow to the barn
Wedding Party Photography at Lyde Court
There’s a stage at the end of the Great Barn which is perfect if you want to have a band. It also gives a DJ loads of space to set up and put on a great party to see the night out.
