Thorpe Garden Wedding Photographer
My oh my, Thorpe Garden, what a joy of a venue to get married and what a wonderful place for wedding photography!
Nestled in the Staffordshire Countryside you have The Thorpe Estate.
Let me give you a potted history of the estate (potted… it’s a garden.… did you see what I did there?!!)
It was bought by William Ives, a successful wine merchant and the Mayor of Leicester, in 1631. 20 years later his daughter and heir, Jane married Richard Inge, and the manor house became their family home. This began 3 centuries of stewardship by the Inge family with their descendants still living on the estate today.
Part of the Thorpe estate is the walled garden, which in the 1980s was used an organic garden, selling produce to London restaurants.
Move forwards to the present day and, restored to it’s former glory, it’s now a Staffordshire wedding venue. A beautiful secret garden, resplendent with verdant lawns, majestic trees, flowers galore and a wonderful wisteria-lined pathway (as seen below!).
But that’s not all
There’s a purpose built wedding ceremony room, designed by award-winning architect Seth Stein.
With a sloping roof leading to floor-to-ceiling glass you have glorious views out across the garden. We’re talking light, light, light, which if you’re a Thorpe Garden Wedding Photographer is a pretty big deal!
After the ceremony, there is a unique wooden yurt with steamed mountain ash supports, fairy lights and more views of the walled garden. So you’ve got cool outdoor space for drinks and even cooler indoor space for your wedding breakfast.
Now, a wedding isn’t a wedding without some pretty yummy food, and I have to say, the food at Thorpe Garden is ACE!!
Wedding Expertise
It’s run by the wonderful Cripps & Co, who know all about weddings. They have a collection of 8 venues, dotted around the country, all of them either country barns or walled gardens.
In fact, it’s been my pleasure to have photographed weddings at a couple of their other venues. Shustoke Barn in Warwickshire and Cripps Barn in the Cotswolds.
There’s the restored gardener’s bothy cottage, which you can use for getting ready and, coming soon, is going to be Constantine House.
This is an historic building at the heart of the Thorpe Estate, just a stones throw away from the walled garden. Currently being refurbished it’s due to open in February 2023 as a 21 bedroom, exclusive-use boutique guest house. So perfect accommodation for the wedding night for family and friends.

Having had to rearrange their wedding from 2021, Emma & Adam we’re reeeeeeaaally looking forwards to their big day!
Both the bridal party and groomsmen were getting ready locally so I was able to call in on both, to capture the atmosphere of preparation.
