I’m a nomad
I Left home at 19 to go to university and lived in about 8 different student houses. Then, whilst working in hospitality, I lived in about 10 different places over a period of about 12 years. I have finally put down roots on the West Midlands/Staffordshire/Shropshire border and it’s great slowly getting to explore the oodles of countryside we have on our doorstep.
So, experiencing Claverley Church wedding photography at the 11th century All Saints Church, where the Bride’s parents got married, gives a wonderful feeling of history and continuity. When it’s followed by a reception in a marquee at Claverley Cricket Club, which last year fielded a team made up of three generations of the family, you get a real sense of connection with this East Shropshire village.
Over the last few years I’ve photographer quite a few weddings in the Bridgnorth area so I’ve written a blog about quite a few of the venues in the area, if you’re looking for inspiration!
Getting Ready at Home
The Bride got ready at her parent’s house, on the outskirts of the village.
I then headed into Claverley to The Plough where the Groom and guests are gathering — nothing wrong with having a drink (or two) to settle the nerves!
Very conveniently, All Saints Church is a short stroll from the pub. The church can trace it’s origin back to 7th century with the present church founded by 1st Earl of Shrewsbury in the 11th Century.

Reasons to have a marquee for your wedding reception:-
- So much flexibility about where you choose
- Can make the wedding as local as you want it to be
- Makes for a wedding unlike anyone elses
Cricket Club Reception
Although I went from the Bride’s family home to the church and then to the cricket club you could have walked the whole journey if you’d had about fifteen minutes to spare (which I didn’t!) which gives you an idea of what a local affair this was.
With a bar made by the groom, the Bride’s Mum the wedding planner and her brother the M.C. it was Shropshire through and through.
There were glasses of gin big enough to swim in, some footballing rivalry and sing-a-long Oasis during the wedding breakfast!!
