The Bringe­wood Wed­ding Pho­tog­ra­phy — An out­door wed­ding in the Lud­low Hills with views down the val­ley into Wales

We have a nation­al obses­sion with the weath­er, every­one knows that.

When you’re a wed­ding pho­tog­ra­ph­er that obses­sion can some­times get ramped up even more as you won­der about sun and shade, rain and shine, all those things that deter­mine where the wed­ding guests are like­ly to spend their time.

Add into the mix an out­door wed­ding cer­e­mo­ny and tipi recep­tion in a field in the Shropshire/Herefordshire coun­try­side and the BBC weath­er app becomes an obsession.

But what do weath­er fore­cast­ers know hey?!!

Bank Holiday Weather

This wed­ding was on the late May Bank Hol­i­day and for the week lead­ing up to it the fore­cast kept chang­ing, alter­nat­ing between Mediter­ranean-esque heav­en and impend­ing mete­o­ro­log­i­cal doom. So dri­ving across Shrop­shire on the day of the wed­ding I real­ly did­n’t know what to expect, but I knew that the Bride real­ly want­ed an out­door cer­e­mo­ny, I mean REALLY want­ed an out­door ceremony.

Two days before there’d been tor­ren­tial rain at the venue, absolute buck­et loads had fall­en, hope­ful­ly not an omen.

As I got clos­er and drove through Lud­low the weath­er app on my phone was telling me that there was­n’t a cloud in the sky and it was 25 degrees.

It was wrong.

Very wrong.

The auto-sen­sor on my car wind­screen would appear to be a bet­ter judge of the actu­al weath­er than my weath­er app as it realised that whirring into life is the appro­pri­ate response when rain is falling….. hmmm, good job I’d packed my water­proof and wellies, as well as a hat and sunscreen.

Still, us Brits don’t let a bit of rain damp­en the spir­its and as my car climbed up the hills out of Lud­low the rain stopped, giv­ing hope that the out­door wed­ding would be on as planned.

Final­ly, under grey skies, the time had come for main event and we were go, go, go for an out­door ceremony!!

If you look close­ly at the pic­ture above, as the Bride & Groom kiss, you can see the rain. What start­ed as a few spots half way through, then became driz­zle before turn­ing to prop­er rain

Did it make any dif­fer­ence of effect the cer­e­mo­ny? HELL NO!!

We’re talk­ing one super chilled out cou­ple here and, with a view down the val­ley to Wales in front of them, they had the out­door wed­ding they want­ed so much. AMAZING!!!

Some­thing that will always stick with me about this wed­ding is chairs! It’s the per­fect venue for cou­ples that want a DIY wed­ding as you hire the loca­tion, but noth­ing else. There’s no event plan­ner or wed­ding coor­di­na­tor to take charge of things like mov­ing fur­ni­ture around, nut when you’ve got lots of will­ing friends and fam­i­ly that’s no prob­lem. As the cer­e­mo­ny end­ed and the rain eased a lit­tle every­one grab hold of a chair and car­ried them down to the tipi, ready for the wed­ding break­fast lat­er on

There’s a pub­lic right of way that pass­es past the venue so as every­one lined up for con­fet­ti some hik­ers wan­dered past in the back­ground, look­ing a lit­tle bemused at the fes­tiv­i­ties in the mid­dle of the country

Then guess what happened?

The rain stopped, the clouds start­ed to clear and we saw the sun. The after­noon was glo­ri­ous­ly sun­ny, tucked away in this lit­tle cor­ner on the England/Wales border
