Let me tell you about The Bond Digbeth, Birmingham Wedding Photography.
Have you ever been to Digbeth in Birmingham?
What used to be the industrial heartland of the West Midlands city is rapidly becoming a thriving creative and cultural hub. With a number of unconventional wedding venues it’s also something of a go-to-quarter for couples who want a different vibe for their day.
There are quite a number of unusual wedding venues around Birmingham and the Midlands and Digbeth definitely has it’s share!
One of these is The Bond, which has it’s own wharf at the intersection between the Grand Union Canal and River Rea. Over the years the site has been used an ice factory, a gas works and even a warehouse for HP Sauce!
So with such an interesting history, The Bond makes the perfect post-industrial wedding venue. Ideal if you’re a couple who are looking for something a little bit different.
That also makes it a great place for a documentary wedding photographer like me!
Reasons to choose The Bond Digbeth for your wedding venue:-
- Urban-cool in a funky part of Birmingham
- Grand Union Canal backdrop
- Only minutes from the railway/bus stations and Metro
A Digbeth Wedding
So for this particular wedding, the Bride got ready at home in Wolverhampton (just around the corner from my house!) before jumping in a taxi to head to The Bond in Birmingham.
This was a November wedding but mild and dry, a great autumn day to get married!
As you can see from the Bride’s shoes, this was a wedding that was full of colour. It also had some great home-made qualities, like a Great British Bake Off style cake table. The idea being that anyone (or everyone!) would bake something and bring it along to add to the feast. Nom, nom, nom.
I’ve photographed a few weddings in the Digbeth area now and they all seem to have a really relaxed, chilled out vibe with couples wanting to have an awesome party.
This was no exception.
Photographing a Wedding at The Bond in Digbeth
You can see in one of the photos above all the brightly coloured strips and circles of tissue paper that had been used to decorate the room used for the ceremony. It’s little touches like this which are so interesting to see and make every wedding that I photograph different.
Time for the wedding!
One of the things I love to photograph at a wedding, like here at The Bond, is the hugs afterwards!
When you’ve witnessed a couple you love tie the knot, it’s the most instinctive thing in the world to want to give them a big hug afterwards.
The Bond in Digbeth has a huge canopy outside the ceremony room. It’s perfect for al fresco drinks.. and also hugs!
At some point during the day I always aim to get some photos of the couple, but try not to make it feel like a ‘photoshoot’!
Lots of my couples either hate the idea of posing or just don’t want to miss out on valuable mingling time by spending ages away from their guests.
But having a bit of time for the two of you is a great thing to do. I tag along whilst you’re having some time together, ninja-style! I’m always happy to give a bit of guidance and direction, from a photographic point of view. Thinking about where the light is good, how I can bring in the environment around your venue to the photographs.
However, the main thing is you be you!!
This is where my style of Wedding Photography really seem to suit The Bond in Digbeth Birmingham
Outdoor Speeches at The Bond in Digbeth
As I mentioned earlier, The Bond has a great outdoor space by the wharf on the canal.
(If you’re watching Late Night Lycett on Fridays on Channel Four, it’s the area the guests walk through from the canal when it’s their turn to be interview!)
It’s also a great space for wedding speeches.
Digbeth Wedding Party at The Bond
No Wedding Photography at the Bond Digbeth Birmingham would be complete without capturing the party!
