Head North-East out of Newcastle-under-Lyme, go through Hanley, and take the road to Leek, towards the verdant Staffordshire Moorlands.
Go through the sleepy village of Endon and you’re in the foothills of the Peak District National Park.
There, nestled on the hillside you’ll find the The Ashes Barns, an exclusive use (no corkage!) wedding venue.
Now, to have one great wedding venue could be seen as good fortune.
When you have two great venues you might start to think, hmm, maybe these guys know a thing or two about weddings.
However, if you own and run FOUR amazing wedding venues then it can only be because you’re damned good at it!
The Ashes Barns is owned and run by the lovely people at Best Day Ever Venues, who also own Foxtail Barns, The Mill Barns and Pendrell Hall. I’m delighted to say that I’ve photographer weddings at the last two on the list. So I know how expert they are!
As you drive along the road out of Endon you’d be forgiven for not knowing that The Ashes Barns is a wedding venue. It looks like a private farm estate, with a country house and some barns. In fact the owners used to live in the house.
So arriving to photograph Joanne & Claire’s wedding at The Ashes Barns, I was full of anticipation and let me tell, you it didn’t disappoint!!

Quite a lot of the wedding party had stayed in Endon the night before the wedding, in a couple of cottages. So preparation started there, moving to The Ashes as the morning went on.
Reasons to choose The Ashes Barns for your wedding venue:-
- Set in a private 50 acre estate in the Staffordshire Moorlands
- No corkage if you want to provide your own drinks for the daytime
- Lots of LGBTQ+-friendly suppliers on their suppliers list
The ceremony was in The West Barn, the oldest building at The Ashes. It’s a 17th century, Grade II listed stone barn, with a minstrel gallery at either end.
The two Brides walked separately down the aisle, accompanied by their families.

Then after the ceremony, it was outside for confetti, canapes, drinks and games in the courtyard.
Space-hopper races anyone?!
By the way, if you’re looking for inspiration for drinks reception entertainment, I’ve got a blog all about it!
Of course, with 50 acres to explore there are lots of lovely places for a wander for Ashes Barns Wedding Photography.
